Planning.
So, after speaking with my professors, they seem to all agree that it would be much better for me to matriculate into the A.S. program NOW rather than complete the certificate and then go back, because some courses may not count if I do it that way. I’m not exactly sure why - I need to meet with my advisor and discuss, but here’s the differences in the programs:
CERTIFICATE (current)
Semester 1: Bio, Med Terms, Software, Law & Ethics
Semester 2: Pharm, Clinical, Lab Principles, Admin
ASSOCIATES (All above, plus these major specific courses)
Lab II, Med Insurance & Billing (my non-credit certificate won’t transfer, but at least it’ll be a breeze), Computerized Med Practice Management
The rest required for the Associates are GenEd reqs, most of which I have already completed and *should* transfer since I am in the same State Community College system: Comp I, Gen Psych, Comp II/Lit, Humanities Elective (I took Spanish), and a Soc/Behav Sci Elective (I took Sociology & AbPsy both already.)
The only two left under GenEds that I would have to complete would be Intermediate Algebra (erg.) and an arts elective (OH GOD DON’T MAKE ME SING IN CHORUS ::sarcasm::).
Okay. The problem with the math, is that I had to start way the eff back at PREAlgebra (which I passed with a B-) and then failed Elem. Algebra. So that means I’m looking at 6 classes, really, since that’s a prereq to intermediate. Still no big deal, considering I’m way ahead of the game. Oh, and the externship. I could still very feesibly get out of here by May 2014 with an Associates.
PROJECTED:
Semester 3 (FT): Elementary Algebra, Lab II, Med Ins & Billing (easy for me to make up for my brain dying from Algebra), Computer Practice Management
Semester 4 (PT): Intermediate Algebra, Arts Elective, Externship
Yeah? Sounds doable, right? I’m just going to need LOTS of math help, but other than that I think I can handle this!
